How to Brew the Perfect Cup of Coffee at Home

There's something deeply satisfying about brewing a great cup of coffee at home. No queue, no noise — just you, your beans, and a ritual that sets the tone for the day. Here's how to get it right every time.

1. Start with fresh, quality beans

Coffee is at its best within 2–4 weeks of roasting. Look for a roast date on the bag (not just a "best by" date) and buy in small batches so you're always brewing fresh. Try our Flavored Coffees Sample Pack to explore a variety of fresh roasts.

2. Grind just before brewing

Pre-ground coffee loses its aroma quickly. A burr grinder gives you a consistent grind size, which makes a big difference in flavor — whether you're using a French press, pour-over, or drip machine.

3. Use the right water temperature

Water that's too hot (above 205°F) over-extracts and turns bitter. Too cool and you'll get a flat, weak cup. Aim for 195–205°F — just off the boil.

4. Nail your ratio

A good starting point is 1:15 — one gram of coffee for every 15 grams of water. Adjust to taste from there.

5. Choose the right mug

A great brew deserves a great vessel. A thick ceramic mug retains heat longer and enhances the sensory experience — the weight, the warmth in your hands, the aroma that lingers. Browse our White Glossy Mug or the Mug With Color Inside to find your perfect match.

Brewing great coffee at home is part technique, part ritual. Once you find your rhythm, there's nothing quite like it.
